I have taken on quite a bit in my management role over the past 2 years. The thought of actually delegating certain tasks to individuals that were capable of assisting me with them never even crossed my mind. Once I read through "the 8 essentials of effective delegation" I had a lightbulb go off. I realized that I was hoarding certain things because I was afraid of sharing them with others.
The reason I was afraid was not because these individuals weren't totally capable, I was afraid that I would not delegate the tasks properly. I had the people in mind to take on these roles and responsibilities, but I was holding them back from their full potential because I did not want to fail them. So, I began using the "8 essentials of effective delegation" like a check off sheet. And guess what? It worked!
I currently have 2 team members who have taken on tasks and responsibilities that have helped them feel elevated and seen within their roles. It has also given me the opportunity to grow myself. By doing this, I have created an even stronger bond with them that is based on trust and communication. We follow up routinely and check in on their progress. Using the Paradigm shift questions, I was able to organize my day-to-day list of duties. I chose the things that would bring them a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. I did not want to just brush off mundane tasks to someone because I did not want to do it.
I plan to continue this change and hopefully give them the confidence to do the same one day. Allowing others to feel empowered and confident in their role is the greatest gift I think I can give my team. Without this course, I do not think I would have had the courage to delegate appropriately.
